Useful Photoshop tools for photography

PSD files are typically used for design purposes so that they will be easy to modify and update when you design websites and other graphics. Photoshop Elements and Photoshop do not support importing Photoshop files.
To open a PSD file, choose Photoshop/Open/Import File… from the File menu. Once you have the PSD file, select Open from the Layers panel. In the Layers panel, you can keep the original image or do a layer by layer merge to convert the new image into the original one.

Alaska black bear can learn to follow human commands
Research at Seattle’s Museum of Flight has shown that a black bear can learn to voluntarily follow simple commands, in what researchers have called a “foundational” result.
In the study, conducted using a similar, leading-to-following training process involving domestic cat pups, researchers said the bear’s success was surprising.
“It’s the first time that we’ve shown that an animal that doesn’t have language as we know it — doesn’t have the ability to call out to others — can learn to follow a simple verbal command,” study researcher David R. Griffin told the Associated Press.
The fact that bears “look like our dog, and they act like our dog,” he said, means that the procedure “could be applicable to domestic animals in zoos and in wildlife to show them what we would want them to do.”
Bears and dogs are the only wild animals studied to this point — dogs used for the experiment were hand-reared to ensure they were cooperative animals and familiar with humans.
The new findings may also indicate a way to study the brains of animals to determine how they process language. Griffin, who was formerly the director of the National Institute of Mental Health’s animal lab, said that to get a bear brain to do what a human brain can — process language — would be a “massive, massive change.” But one option, he said, may be to study the brains of animals who have displayed the ability to understand and process language.
Last December, a group of scientists from Oxford University published a paper on a bear that appeared to speak, making sounds that mimicked human speech. The paper, published in the journal Current Biology, reported on a bear in Alaska’s Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve who seemed able to greet tourists and associate them with food.
